There are various ways to capture heart rhythm abnormalities. To look for heart rate control or assess medical therapy, a 24 or 48 hour Holter monitor can be used. This has 5 wires attached to one’s chest with stickers and records each and every heart beat over that time.
A 2 week holter collects the same information for an extended time. These monitors have only 2 stickers and are waterproof. The patient can trigger a button to record the rhythm if they have symptoms. This monitor has largely supplemented the loop recorder which only collects information if triggered.
